A Complete Concussions Certified Clinic

Evidence-Based Concussion Assessment, Rehabilitation & Return-to-Sport Care

Core Concussion Clinic, powered by Core Active Health, provides comprehensive concussion assessment and rehabilitation for athletes, students, and active individuals of all ages.

As a Complete Concussions certified clinic, we deliver evidence-based concussion management using internationally recognised assessment and rehabilitation principles to support safe recovery and confident return to school, work, exercise, and sport.

Our team understands that every concussion presentation is different. That’s why we take an individualised approach to care, combining detailed assessment with targeted rehabilitation strategies tailored to the specific needs of each person.

We assess and manage a wide range of concussion presentations, including sport-related concussion, prolonged concussion symptoms, vestibular dysfunction, exercise intolerance, balance impairment, cervical spine involvement, and return-to-performance planning.

At Core Concussion Clinic, our goal is not simply symptom resolution, it is helping people safely return to the activities that matter most to them.

What Is a Concussion?

A concussion is a type of brain injury that occurs when a forceful impact to the head, neck, or body causes the brain to move rapidly within the skull. This can temporarily affect how the brain functions, even if scans such as MRI or CT imaging appear normal.

Concussions can occur during sport, exercise, falls, motor vehicle accidents, or everyday incidents, and symptoms can vary significantly from person to person.

Common symptoms may include:

  • Headache or pressure in the head

  • Dizziness or balance problems

  • Neck pain

  • Nausea

  • Sensitivity to light or noise

  • Fatigue

  • Difficulty concentrating or remembering

  • Feeling slowed down, foggy, or “not quite right”

Loss of consciousness does not need to occur for a concussion to be diagnosed.

Early assessment and appropriate management are important to support recovery and guide a safe return to school, work, exercise, and sport.

Concussion Treatment & Rehabilitation

Following a concussion, early assessment and appropriate management are important for supporting recovery and reducing the risk of prolonged symptoms. Research continues to show that individuals who are assessed early by a healthcare professional experienced in concussion management often experience better recovery outcomes.

At Core Concussion Clinic, we provide evidence-based concussion assessment and rehabilitation tailored to the individual, their symptoms, and the demands of their daily life, school, work, or sport.

In the first 24–48 hours following a concussion, a short period of relative physical and cognitive rest is generally recommended. After this initial phase, current evidence supports a gradual and symptom-guided return to activity rather than complete prolonged rest.

Every concussion presentation is different. Some individuals recover quickly, while others may experience ongoing symptoms that require more targeted rehabilitation and support.

If symptoms persist beyond the expected recovery timeframe, an individualised rehabilitation program may be recommended. Depending on the person and their presentation, treatment may include:

  • Guided exercise rehabilitation

  • Vestibular and balance rehabilitation

  • Visual and oculomotor rehabilitation

  • Cervical spine and associated neck treatment

  • Return-to-school, work, exercise, and sport planning

  • Education and symptom management strategies

  • Graduated return-to-play progression

  • Baseline and follow-up testing where appropriate

Our goal is to provide a structured, evidence-based approach to concussion care that supports safe recovery and a confident return to the activities that matter most.

Our Concussion Services

At Core Concussion Clinic, we provide comprehensive, evidence-based concussion assessment and rehabilitation tailored to the individual and their stage of recovery.

Our concussion management approach combines current scientific evidence with practical, personalised care to help support safe recovery and confident return to school, work, exercise, and sport.

Baseline & Pre-Season Concussion Testing

Baseline concussion testing, also known as pre-season testing, provides an overview of how the brain and nervous system are functioning before injury occurs.

At Core Concussion Clinic, our multimodal baseline testing combines a series of physical, cognitive, visual, and balance-based assessments to establish an individual’s healthy pre-injury profile.

Depending on the assessment, testing may include areas such as:

  • Balance and postural control

  • Reaction time

  • Memory and cognitive processing

  • Visual tracking and eye movement function

  • Symptom screening

  • Neurological and exercise-related assessment

If a concussion occurs, these baseline results can help guide management by allowing comparison to the athlete’s normal pre-injury function. This can assist in identifying ongoing deficits, monitoring recovery progress, and supporting safer return-to-sport decision making.

Not all baseline concussion testing is the same. Our approach utilises evidence-based multimodal assessment principles designed to provide a more comprehensive understanding of brain and nervous system function than single-test screening alone.

Baseline testing may be beneficial for:

  • Contact and collision sport athletes

  • School and representative athletes

  • Community sporting clubs

  • Individuals with previous concussion history

  • Athletes returning from prior concussion injury

Concussion Tracker Smartphone Application

At Core Concussion Clinic, we utilise the Concussion Tracker smartphone application to help support communication, symptom monitoring, and safer return-to-sport decision making throughout the recovery process.

The Concussion Tracker app allows patients, families, athletes, and healthcare providers to stay connected and monitor recovery progress in real time. This helps create a more streamlined and collaborative approach to concussion management.

Depending on the individual and situation, the app may assist with:

  • Symptom tracking and recovery monitoring

  • Recording concussion history and timelines

  • Sideline and follow-up assessments

  • Monitoring return-to-school, work, exercise, and sport progress

  • Accessing baseline concussion testing results

  • Secure sharing of medical documents and updates

  • Communication between athlete, family, and healthcare provider

  • Tracking recovery progression over time

The app is designed to support evidence-based concussion care and improve continuity throughout the rehabilitation and return-to-play process.

The Concussion Tracker app is available to download for free on the App Store and Google Play.
