Remedial Massage

Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is one of the most popular forms of massage therapy, encompassing a full range of soft tissue techniques used by massage therapists. The primary aim is to treat symptoms and find the root cause of your problem. Various massage techniques are adopted within this collective title, including myofascial release, deep-tissue massage and trigger point therapy to specifically target your problem muscles, soft tissues and joints. The techniques may be gentle or firm, deep or shallow, depending on your preference and what the issue requires. You can discuss your requirements in your initial consultation with our massage therapist.

Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is primarily a relaxation massage aiming to help reduce stress, promote healing and loosen up your body. It is great for those who have had a hard working week or feel like treating themselves to some TLC!

Swedish massage consists of long flowing strokes, effleurage, kneading and gentle manipulations (friction, tapping, percussion, vibrations and shaking) of your muscles performed at your pressure of choice in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to your heart. It is pain free to relax and invigorate both your muscles and your mind. Additional benefits include shortening recovery time from muscular strain, increased circulation without increased heart load, stretching of ligaments and tendons, skin stimulation and soothing of the nervous system.

Swedish massage can be effectively combined with any of our other massage techniques.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu

Shiatsu is a style of bodywork developed in Japan. It is similar to acupuncture, but uses pressure applied by the fingers, thumbs and elbows instead of needles. The pressure is applied to acupressure points and channels (meridians) through a towel without oil.

Shiatsu can be translated as “shi”, meaning finger and “atsu”, meaning pressure. Our goal within this realm is to restore the healthy flow of energy throughout the body through the use of kneading, pressing, soothing, tapping, and stretching techniques.

Sports Massage

Sports Massage

Sports massage is typically the deepest of all massage forms. It is designed to prevent and relieve injuries and conditions that are associated with all forms of exercise, either gentle or intense. Contrary to its name, sports massage is not only for elite sportspeople or those that exercise heavily. It is of benefit to anyone that exercises, even if it is only mild exercise such as regular walking.

Sports massage can often be quite strenuous as it is meant to relieve and reduce the stress and tension through various lines of fascia and neural pathways that can build up within the body’s soft tissues. Appointments can be made before, during, or after playing sport or exercising. The technique adopted would be tailored to your specific needs of increasing endurance and performance, restoring pain free movement, minimising the chances of injury and, if there is an injury, to reduce the recovery time.
